The Purpose of Prayer - 1/31/2012

Oftentimes I wonder why, exactly, I feel compelled to pray.  If God is a constant presence in our lives, as I believe, than He/She/It knows exactly what we're going through at all times.  There's never a need to reveal our hearts desire to God, because He knows our hearts better than we do.  And when we ask God for illumination, or beseech the Universe in some way for guidance....we're asserting to ourselves that we need assistance from something other than ourselves.  We need the help of an outside source in order to make sense of the tumultuous and petty dramas that we play out all the time.  We are willingly handing our power over to some other entity so that we may once again take control of our lives.

And yet, I feel that prayer is extremely important.  I think it's a powerful creative tool, if used correctly, because it is an extirpation of the nonsense we encumber ourselves with daily.  It focuses our thoughts, if only briefly, on the things in our lives that actually matter to us.  It realigns us with intent, and thus brings us back to purpose.

Prayer is divine purpose.  It is the declaration of the mind for that which the soul both desires, and is.  It is a statement to yourself of both gratitude for what you already are and what you already have, and a request for that which you desire and wish to be.  Therefore, on some level it facilitates action.  It is a catalyst for motivating yourself to acquire or become by reminding you of what you really want.

Consequentially, prayer is a direct link to Source and to God, because it distils our thoughts to pure intent, and reacquaints us all with the truth of Who We Are.
