Autopilot - 7/27/11

I often find myself conflicted about Determinism.  Part of me truly doesn't believe in free will.  Like we neither have the ability to act nor to react. It's all already happened, we're simply unaware of this.  The story has been written.....and thus ......we ultimately have no control over the direction of our lives whatsoever.

Of course I cannot subscribe to this notion all of the time, because it's both disparaging and meaningless, in that it fundamentally removes meaning from one's life.  It negates our volition, our capacity for creation, our spontaneity and that which makes us uniquely human.  It renders responsibility and accountability moot, and sabotages every conscious decision made by every sentient being in the universe.  

If it was all supposed to happen, if events played out because of a script that we're unaware of....what then of choice?  Are we deluded in thinking that we're capable of changing our actions, our roles, and our very lives into a design of our own choosing?

I've never known, but lately I've come to think that maybe we DO have free will, but only in terms of how we think.  We have the freedom to think and imagine any way we choose.  Your life will unfold in a particular way, set on a course that's already laid out for you, but the one thing you have control over...the ONLY thing you can affect in any way shape or form, is how you perceive your life.

Our bodies are on auto-pilot, and our lives are happening to us rather than through us.  We cannot change what is going on "out there", but we can affect how we process the information; how we analyse, review, and interpret the events of our day. 

And this decision IS how we can change our lives, because when we view things positively, when we see the world around us clearly, without judging or condemning, by simply accepting the moment and allowing what is TO BE.......we will literally affect the fabric of our universe and become masters of our world. 

That is when we will be allowed to take control of our destinies, to shift our default auto-pilot navigation into manual over-ride, because we've evolved.  The Universe, God, or whatever you want to call it will then endow us with the capacity FOR change, because we've earned it.  He will trust us enough to make our own decisions, because at this level of consciousness we will have both the knowledge and the confidence to find our way back Home by ourselves.
